I think this would be a good read for my son to do with my husband, they are both getting into archery/hunting and survival youtube videos (all the time, sigh). Now only to convince my husband that he needs to do a book club with his son who is more my child than his (thinking wise, he is fully his son!) I've gotten several Paulsen books thinking that someday they would be good for my boys to read, probably good thing that they haven't read any of them yet, cause neither have I!Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15369709598044738038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-19638610432497190962018-03-18T21:30:35.223+11:002018-03-18T21:30:35.223+11:00🙂🙂Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820925595506920754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-24589043868949901312018-03-17T11:55:29.327+11:002018-03-17T11:55:29.327+11:00This was a great leisure book for my 15 year old s...This was a great leisure book for my 15 year old son. I’d read Hatchet some years ago & vaguely remembered a couple of incidents so reread it before deciding whether to give it to my daughter to read or not. I will have to ask some of my home schooling family friends if they have read this book and how they assess what their young readers should or shouldn't read. Because we listened together we were able to talk on the spot about some of the more troubling concepts. The sad truth is that kids face hard things in life, and Paulsen grit coupled with the knowledge of a God who loves them is good foundational material.Michele Morinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03814119096056835884noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-55589641435100848142018-02-21T18:36:39.778+11:002018-02-21T18:36:39.778+11:00I found all the best books when I started homescho...I found all the best books when I started homeschooling my own children. I find that many books for young people either tend to focus on certain issues - identifying with the reader, helping them cope (I don’t know that they’re helpful) or they are packed with action, more like a movie script than a book. Character building does seem like an old fashioned concept, unfortunately.<br />Carolhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06820925595506920754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-60581544325365696452018-02-20T19:54:43.398+11:002018-02-20T19:54:43.398+11:00This sounds strangely intense but at the same time...This sounds strangely intense but at the same time something that a young reader would get a lot out of. I may be wrong but I think that this sort of character building story for young people is out of fashion these days.
