Some of them I am familiar with but quite a few were new. All of this was so helpful. So many ...Excellent post as Amy Marie said, Carol. So many things to consider about what you said.

One thing I always prayed for in raising my son was wisdom in how to deal with him in an age appropriate manner. You're right; what was acceptable at 6 was not effective at 16. I also learned from my own experience with my father was that if I had not developed a good, solid, loving relationship with my son when he was 6 and kept up a close, affectionate relationship with him as he grew up, he was not going to respect me as a teenager. I think spending time with him and putting him before my personal convenience or pleasure or career, was time well invested. He is in college now and a solid believer in Christ and we are still close.

How wonderful that you read Greek classics with your children, what an invaluable gift! After dinner, Derek and I always studied our Bible and read books. It was a great routine!

I read Franklin's autobiography where he wrote that graph. I thought that for a smart, even brilliant man, he was also sort of a fool to think that he could possibly live up to and improve his morals by his own sheer will. Without the Spirit of Truth living in us, we can never attain moral goodness.

Thanks for the great post!Gently Madhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10450371589766691273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-44102182064977646802016-11-10T02:19:31.312+11:002016-11-10T02:19:31.312+11:00This is just EXCELLENT, Carol. I have an 13yo and 11yo and so much of what you said in regards to our children and authority have me thinking...we are beginning School Education in our book study also so this really challenges me to think deeply on this. Thank you. How easy it is to broadcast another's weakness as the younger son had done."

The Tozer quote is excellent, too!

walkinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05046468024103932112noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7546783121640385268.post-62353779693286434762014-03-25T07:46:28.977+11:002014-03-25T07:46:28.977+11:00I really enjoy following your musings here. You are so right to distinguish between godliness, which must come from God, and what might turn into a self-righteousness that keeps our children from learning the poverty of spirit that Jesus teaches in the Beatitudes. That story of Noah's sons is powerful, isn't it? So much to think about....
Thank you for this!GretchenJoannahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13641677400029070452noreply@blogger.com
