This is my wrap up post for the 2016 Back to the Classics challenge. I diverted somewhat from my original post on the books I intended to read, although that was what I expected would happen.
So here are the books I actually read:
1. A 19th Century Classic - Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy (1874)
2. A 20th Century Classic - Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh (1943-1944)
3. A Classic by a Woman Author - The Five Red Herrings by Dorothy Sayers (1931)
4. A Classic in Translation - The Confessions of Saint Augustine by Augustine
5. A Classic by a Non-White Author - Train to Pakistan by Khushwant Singh (1956)
6. An Adventure Classic - The Tragedy of the Korosko by Arthur Conan Doyle (1898)
7. A Fantasy, science fiction , or dystopian Classic - The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (1951)
8. A Classic detective novel - Cover Her Face by P.D. James (1962)
9. A Classic which includes the name of a place in the title - Decision at Delphi by Helen MacInnes (1960)
10. A Classic which has been banned or censored - The Metamorphosis by Frank Kafka (1915)
11. A Classic you read in school (high school or college) - All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque (1929)
12. A volume of Classic short stories - A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O'Connor

Wow! I've only read 2 on that list! I've got some reading to do!!! :)
Good for you! I'm still short a book or two and will probably remain so. :-( Hoping for better times next year.
This is an impressive list. May your 2017 reading be as fruitful!
I wouldn't have tackled 12 books if I still had a house full of little ones like you :)
Some of my choices were deliberately not huge books...
Thanks :) I should probably read some that were in my original list for the challenge.
Wonderful!!! I think I read about 7 of mine? I'm 3/4 done with another and almost done with another, but I'm just not in the mood to finish it all up. LOL! I'm listening to David Copperfield, but I will be finishing that next year. It's so good!
That's the only problem with challenges - rushing to finish in time, rather than taking the time to really indulge in the book. Good on you for not doing this, Amy! David Copperfield opened the door to Dickens for me. Hope you join the challenge again next year.
I haven't read any of these. I have Far From the Maddening Crowd, Metamorphis, and Brideshead Revisited on my TBR. Congratulations on accomplishing your goals. I am planning this challenge for 2017.
I look forward to reading what books you choose. You have some interesting books in your 50 Classics list. William Faulkner is an author you have that I haven't read anything by.
Late to the party but congratulations on completing the challenge!
I love how one's original list can evolve as the year progresses. I need to check out your review of the Khushwant Singh title, I have never heard of the author.
Thanks! Now I'm looking at what I had on my original plan for the challenge last year to see if I'll put those on this year's plan :)
Wow...it's awesome that you filled all 12 categories Carol! I only managed six this year.
Blessings in the New Year,
Melissa
I've really enjoyed your book reviews and seeing you plug away at these challenges. It is definitely encouraging, and has introduced me to some new books as well as reminded me of some ones I have enjoyed in the past. I'll look forward to reading your 2017 posts!
Hi Melissa, six is pretty good, especially when you're also reading educational books as you do. Wishing you all the very best for the New Year.
Thank you, Amber. Blessings for the coming year to you and your family.
