AusReading Month

Once a year, in November, Brona hosts an Australian book reading month.

Join us as we read, review and blog about all things Australian - classic books, contemporary stories, children's books, poetry, non-fiction, short stories, popular, literary, award-winning - whatever.

The only stipulation is that it has to be written by an Australian based author or predominantly set in Australia.

This year my choices are (subject to change):

Playing Beattie Bow by Ruth Park
My Brilliant Career by Miles Franklin

Updated to add:

The Silver Brumby by Elyne Mitchell

I'd like to add some children's picture books if I have time and a book by Nevil Shute (I've been slowly working my way through his wonderful novels).

If you'd like to join just head over to Brona's Books and sign up. You don't have to be an Aussie to enter!

Playing Beattie Bow is one of my 8 year olds favourite books. :o)

That's good to know. We don't actually have the book although I have an idea of what it's about.

I was out at the op shop today sourcing more books and I found 'My Brilliant Career' but it is by Miles Franklin. At any rate I got it. To my total delight it also contained a newspaper cutting in the back cover from 1988. I will pop some show and tell in a blog post soon. :o)

That's the author I should have had in my post! Just changed it. Henry Handel Richardson was also a woman as was Miles Franklin, but she wrote The Getting of Wisdom, not My Brilliant Career! Thanks for commenting on my mistake!! You should link up your review at Brona's Books. Thanks, Deborah.
